STRENGTHS IN THE FOLLOWING AREAS

Cancer Care:

Among the six main hospitals making up the Cancer Institute AP-HP in the North, four have dedicated interventional radiology (IR) teams, thereby covering the whole territory for cancer patient care. These four teams are essentially subspecialized, as follows: Beaujon in digestive IR (liver, biliary duct), Bichat in lung and vascular procedures, St-Louis in breast cancer, and Lariboisière in bone procedures. All teams employ intravascular devices for systemic treatments. The most varied techniques are implemented in our facilities, including vascular embolization, vascular prosthesis and stenting, tumor ablation, computed tomography- and ultrasound-guided biopsies, bone cementoplasty, cryoablation, local intratumoral injection therapies (viral vectors, immunotherapy, chimeric antigen receptor T-cells [CAR-T], cytotoxics, etc.), etc. Our teams thus perform more than 7,000 interventional procedures for various solid cancers and hematological malignancies, with 24/7 on-site availability of IR experts. Our specialty strives to carry out such highly technical procedures on an outpatient basis, even if a short general anesthesia is needed in close collaboration with the anesthesia department.

Research:

Institut des maladies émergentes et des thérapies innovantes (iMETI)/CEA: Team Carosella Desgrandchamps.

  • FHU MOSAIC: Multiscale Optimized Strategy for Artificial Intelligence-based Imaging Biomarkers in Digestive Cancer Applications in hepatocellular carcinomas and neuro-endocrine tumors, led by V. Paradis.
  • RHU OPERANDI: Optimization and imProved Efficacy of targeted RAdioNuclide therapy in Digestive cancers by Imagomics

Education:

IR specialists of the four radiology departments have been involved in the development of guidelines in oncology (V. Vilgrain 2018 EASL Clinical Practice Guidelines on the management of hepatocellular carcinoma, J Hepatol 2018; V. Vilgrain 2021 ESMO Guidelines on the management of pancreatic adenocarcinoma).

IR specialists of the respective radiology departments are also speakers at annual national/European IR meetings, in particular at the ECIO/CIRSE.
